Million-Dollar Smiles & Economic Independence

Today, I sat in the dental chair for a routine cleaning, enjoying that fresh, polished feeling that comes with taking care of yourself. As my hygienist worked, we started chatting about nursing school, dental hygiene school, and the paths women take to build their lives.

She shared that she was a mother of three when she decided to go back to school for dental hygiene. It wasn’t easy. It took courage, sacrifice, confidence, and a willingness to bet on herself.

Then she shared something that stopped me in my tracks.

Her husband passed away unexpectedly about 13 years ago. There was no life insurance. She told me that if she hadn’t gone back to school when she did, she and her children could have faced a very different future.

Instead, she had the ability to support herself.

She had a career. She had options.

It reminded me why women’s economic power matters so much.

Not because we expect the worst.

Not because we don’t value partnership, marriage, or family.

But because life is unpredictable.

A degree, a license, a skill, a business, a trade; these things create choices. They provide stability when circumstances shift. They give us the ability to stand on our own feet when life asks us to.

To every mother studying after bedtime, every woman working doubles while taking classes, every future nurse, hygienist, teacher, entrepreneur, or professional building a better life: I see you.

Your courage matters.

Your education matters.

Your financial independence matters.

You may never know all the ways your hard work will protect and provide for the people you love.

And that is a beautiful thing.

Signed, sealed, and delivered with a million-dollar smile,

Nurse Mika💋✨
